For the past few weeks we were publishing the documents on the cancelled Kurtis Trent spin-off game – a prequel to The Angel of Darkness.

These documents sent to us anonymously. Therefore, we have no doubts about the authenticity of these documents.

We are pleased to say that we’ve published every single one of those documents. We are also happy that @hydraballista is now working on a comic based on these files.

SCENE 01

Direction : Interior of the hospital reception room.

The room is a mess. Overhead strip lights flicker on and off.

Kurtis : (Voice over). Looks like somebody started a war in here.

Direction : Kurtis takes a few steps forward.

Kurtis : (Shouts). Hey! Professor! Can you hear me?

SCENE 02

Direction : The Professors study. Books and paper are scattered everywhere.

The desk lamp is tilted at the wall and illuminates framed certificates.

Door leading to washroom is ajar.

Kurtis : Professor?

Direction : Kurtis walks to the door and pushes it open.

Stands in the doorway.

Professor is leaning over the sink. His forehead is bleeding.

He looks at Kurtis’ reflection in the mirror over the sink.

Professor : Don’t worry – I’ll live.

Direction : The Professor turns and walks into the study. Kurtis stands aside to let him pass.

Kurtis : Looks like I got here too late.

Professor : Don’t blame yourself – I thought I could control it. But it’s become too powerful. If it gets into the city …

Direction : The Professor lets the sentence hang. The meaning is clear.

Kurtis : I understand.

Direction : Kurtis draws his pistol and together they walk out of the study.

SCENE 03

Direction : Kurtis and the Professor stand at the lift.

The Professor uses his pass key to open the doors.

Professor : He’s trapped in the morgue. Be careful.

Kurtis : I always am.

Direction : Kurtis enters the lift and the doors close.

SCENE 04

Direction : Kurtis’ POV. (First person). The lift chimes and the doors open.

Kurtis walks out into the dim corridor leading to the morgue.

SCENE 05

Direction : The morgue is cold. Freezing vapour hangs in the air.

Lucifer stands at the far end of the room, his back to Kurtis.

He turns to face him.

Kurtis : Times up – you coming quietly?

Lucifer : Don’t be fooled by the body I have had to occupy.

Perhaps you need a demonstration of my abilities?

Direction : Lucifer sends bolts of power into the storage units and the doors open.

Dead corpses jerk into life and turn towards Kurtis.

Lucifer : I don’t expect we’ll meet again.

Direction : Lucifer launches himself through the morgue’s ceiling and is gone.

SCENE 06

Direction : Kurtis climbs into the vent and crawls through.

Punches out the other side and drops down into the basement room.

SCENE 07

Direction : Lucifer and Kurtis face one another on top of the building.

The wind tugs at their clothing, the city glitters in the background.

Kurtis : No where left to run kid.

Lucifer : Your friends are coming for you. I expect they will have questions – a pity you’ll have to answer them alone!

Direction : Lucifer turns and casually walks off the edge of the multi-storey building.

He drops over the edge out of sight.

Kurtis runs to the spot where Lucifer was standing and looks over.

He sees nothing below but the flashing lights of the emergency vehicles parked ten floors down.

Loud hailer : This is the police. Stay where you are!

Direction : A helicopter buzzes the rooftop.

Kurtis turns to see police running onto the roof behind him. They look nervous, guns at the ready.

He hesitates for a second and jumps off the roof, landing heavily on the fire escape below.

SCENE 08

Direction : Kurtis drops from the fire escape.

He is in an alleyway. The Professor pulls up in Kurtis’ pickup truck.

Kurtis runs out of the alley and jumps in.

The Professor drives off at speed.

Kurtis : I lost him.

Professor : I’m not surprised – Lucifer is clever and he’s getting stronger.

Kurtis : So what’s happening to him?

Professor : Something I’ve only ever read about – a true demonic possession that uses its host form to travel undetected through our world.

Kurtis : You mean the kid isn’t human?

Professor : The host? That poor child is very much one of us, but the creature enslaving it is anything but!

Kurtis : So now what?

Direction : The Professor lifts a tracking device out of his coat pocket.

He switches it on.

ECU of the tracker’s screen as it orientates itself.

A red icon flashes and the tracker zooms in on it then zooms out to show the trucks relative position in the city.

Professor : Luckily for us every patient at the institute is tagged with a chip in case they escape.

Kurtis : Looks like we got ourselves a second chance!

SCENE 09

Direction : The pickup truck cruises down a street in China Town.

The Professor and Kurtis pull up opposite one of the buildings.

Kurtis checks the trackers screen. The two icons are virtually on top of one another.

Kurtis : Says here he’s gone to ground in Boss Chang’s place.

Professor : Just about the safest place he could find – can we get in there?

Kurtis : Not without one hell of a fight …

Direction : Triad gangsters suddenly point at the pickup truck and start running towards it, weapons at the ready.

Professor : Too late – we’ve been spotted!

Direction : The Professor guns the engine and swerves out into the traffic.

Horns blare.

Suddenly two black chase cars swerve out of a junction and close in behind the truck. Shots are fired.

Kurtis : Keep moving Professor! I’m going outside!

Direction : Kurtis climbs out of the cab and uncovers a machine gun mounted in the back of the pickup truck.

SCENE 10

Direction : The truck races straight at the armoured glass entrance to the Triad building.

Cut to interior of Triad building.

Triad gangsters stand ready with their machine guns.

The pickup truck hurtles towards them. It smashes through scattering debris and sending the gangsters diving for safety.

SCENE 11

Direction : The helicopter pilot is killed and the craft crashes and breaks up. It scatters wreckage across the ground then explodes.

Kurtis stands facing the blaze then turns and walks away.

Direction : Close up of wreckage.

A panel of wreckage falls over and the Triad boss’s cat slinks away into the night.

It pauses to look at the camera. It has the glowing red eyes of Lucifer.

SCENE 12

Direction : Night time. Kurtis lays on a crumpled bed.

He is disturbed by visionary dreams.

He is lost in a huge library walking down long aisles of antique books.

Two voices can be heard in the background.

Lucifer : Do this for me and I will make you more powerful than any man ever before!

Dr Yates : Yes! Yes! Why not? Haven’t I earned it? Haven’t I sacrificed so much while others have got fat on my companies profits?

Direction : Kurtis turns the aisle corner and sees Dr Phil Yates standing against the library’s blazing log fire.

On the rug is the Triad boss’s cat.

The cat raises it’s head and looks at Kurtis.

The Dr half turns and stares at Kurtis. His eyes glow with Lucifers red light.

Somewhere a phone is ringing. It gets louder, more insistent.

Direction : Cut to Kurtis lying in bed.

He wakes up and reaches for the bedside phone.

Professor : Kurtis! The dream! Did you experience the dream?!

Kurtis : Ur, yeh! You been dreaming of me too Doc?

Professor : Amazing! A multiple telepathic link-up with simultaneous visual transference over …

Kurtis : Wait! A what?

Professor : Don’t you see? Our early exposure to Lucifer has somehow linked us together!

Kurtis : Great! Just great … so who was the suit with the cat?

Professor : You really should keep up with the times Kurtis!

Dr Phil Yates. Just about the richest man on the planet at the last count.

Kurtis : So what’s his line of business? Oil? Diamonds?

Professor : Software. Just about every system has his name on it somewhere.

But more worrying is his links with the military. My god! Lucifer is after the Omega system!

Direction : Kurtis, suddenly alert, swings his legs out of bed.

Kurtis : Now this I’ve heard of …

Direction : Fade to black. Fade up.

Direction : Night time. Snow falls. Kurtis crouches on top of the mansion rooftop.

He jumps down onto the balcony below and waits in the shadows.

The camera pans down to take in the arrival of a cavalcade of military staff cars.

Security guards run to meet the cars and fan out, weapons at the ready.

Kurtis : (Voice over) The Omega system is the most controversial weapons system ever created.

A weapon of last resort, the Omega missiles are constantly moved across the country in armoured trains.

Just one missile has the power to ionize the atmosphere and burn away the surface of planet earth.

Guess somebody thought Armageddon needed a little help.

Direction : As Kurtis narrates, cut to Colonel getting out of car.

Direction : Cut to group of military staff officers climbing stairs.

Direction : Kurtis crouches on the roof of the cable car.

Security guards stand waiting in the cable car building.

They open fire, riddling the cable car with bullets.

Kurtis uses his telekinesis power and accelerates the cable car, overriding the brakes and the car smashes into the building.

Kurtis leaps from the car as it smashes into the reception room, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

SCENE 14

Direction : Dr Phil Yates and a military Colonel are standing at a large conference table.

Contract papers are spread out on the tabletop.

The Colonel bends down to sign his name.

Dr Yates : Congratulations Colonel! The military are now the proud owners of the final phase of project Omega.

Direction : The Colonel and Dr Phil Yates shake hands.

The Dr’s eyes glow red. Cut to the Colonels face. His eyes are glowing red. (Lucifer has taken control of the Colonel).

Colonel : Six Trillion dollars buys a lot of firepower Dr.

I guess you’ll be buying Mrs Yates a new car?

Direction : They laugh.

Direction : Cut to outside on the balcony.

Kurtis stands facing the huge armoured glass window.

He raises his arms and sends a massive telekinetic blast at the glass, It blows inwards, shattering into a million pieces.

Direction : Cut to interior of the conference room.

The blast knocks everyone to the floor.

Kurtis enters the room.

The Colonel (Lucifer) gets to his feet and his men form a courdon of armed guards around him and the Dr.

Colonel : Stop him!

SCENE 15

Direction : A helicopter is warming up outside on the balcony.

The Colonel and the Dr run towards it.

A group of security guards form a protective ring around the helicopter.

Kurtis runs out of the lodge. The guards open fire.

The Colonel climbs into the helicopter.

Colonel : Goodbye Dr!

Dr Yates : What? Wait! Don’t leave me!

Direction : Kurtis is fighting back. Security guards are being shot down.

The helicopter starts to lift off.

The Dr crouches on the ground and watches it leave.

Direction : Interior of helicopter.

The Colonel swings a mini-gun out of the doorway and opens fire.

Colonel : Sorry Doctor – but you know too much!

Dr Yates and his remaining security men are shot down.

Kurtis leaps out of the path of the ripping tracer and tumbles over the hand rail.

He drops down the sheer cliff face.

Kurtis’ fall is broken by his levitation powers and he comes to rest on the hillside.

The helicopter flies off into the night.

SCENE 16

Direction : Military base. Camera tracks along perimeter fence.

Inside the base there is activity – vehicles criss-cross one another. Loaders lift and lower crates.

Subtitle flashes up : Maximum Security Nuclear Installation.

The camera comes to a halt.

Kurtis and the Professor crouch behind a stack of crates.

Kurtis :

(Voice over). The Omega missile program had always been a target for the anti-war movement.

All the noise and media coverage made the location of the missile trains impossible to keep secret.

Professor : Remember – find the Colonel. If Lucifer is still controlling him he will have infiltrated the Omega program. This could be our last chance Kurtis – if we fail …

Kurtis : Don’t even think it.

SCENE 17

Direction : Kurtis looks through the metal mesh of the ventilation shaft.

Below him he can see soldiers working around a nuclear missile.

The missile is sitting on a large lift platform.

Suddenly the Colonel (Lucifer) comes into view. The Colonel gives orders and points at the missile.

Cut to opposite side of vent.

Kurtis kicks out the mesh cover and jumps down into the room below.

The Colonel turns and orders his men to shoot Kurtis.

Colonel : Stop him! Open fire!

SCENE 18

Direction : Kurtis and the Colonel fight on the missile lift platform as it descends down into the base.

The Colonel smashes the brake motor and the platform rushes downwards, sparks flying as it scrapes down the lift shaft.

Colonel : Enjoy the ride!

Direction : Using his levitation powers the Colonel (Lucifer) floats off the platform and hangs in the air.

The platform plummets downwards with Kurtis and the nuclear missile still onboard.

It disappears into the far depths of the shaft then hits the bottom and a flaming explosion roars upwards.

The Colonel (Lucifer) laughs as the blast wave flashes past.

Colonel : Ha ha ha ha …

Direction : The Colonels laughter is cut short as he sees something flying up the shaft towards him.

Cut to Kurtis using levitation powers to escape the fire below.

Kurtis : It’s not over yet Lucifer!

Colonel : You fool! You only delay the inevitable!

SCENE 19

Direction : Kurtis loses the mid air fight with the Colonel (Lucifer) and plummets down the lift shaft towards the burning destruction below.

Fade to black.

SCENE 20

Direction : Kurtis is standing in a pitch black underground cavern.

A light appears. It is drawing near.

The light comes closer. It illuminates the face of the man carrying it but little else.

Kurtis : Where am I?

Lamp man : You mean you don’t recognize your birth place Kurtis?

Kurtis : Right now all I recognize is my right to bear arms – hey! My guns are missing!

Lamp man : This is one part of your life where you can’t rely on mankind’s crude inventions – you must arm yourself with your birthrights and fulfill your true potential!

Kurtis : My father talked a lot like you – all that birthright stuff sent me half crazy!

Lamp man : Whatever your past was – your future lies within you!

Direction : The Lamp man turns to leave, taking the source of illumination with him.

Kurtis : Hey! Wait a minute!

Direction : The Lamp man speaks as he leaves.

Lamp man : Don’t be afraid! Your future lies within you Kurtis!

SCENE 21

Direction : Kurtis has killed one of the hit squad team.

He searches the mans pockets and pulls out an ID and photographs of his mother and infant self.

Kurtis : Wait a minute …

The mine retreat in Utah – Mom and me were holed up here when she was on the run all those years ago!

I’ve got to find her before these guys do!

SCENE 22

Direction : Kurtis’ mother (Marie Cornel), is hiding from the hit squad behind a stack of crates.

She has the baby with her. In her hand is a pistol.

A river raft is moored close by but the hit men have it covered.

Hit man : Don’t make this any harder than it has to be Miss Cornel!

All we want is the kid! Hand it over and you can go free!

M Cornel : Fuck you asshole!

Direction : She stands and fires rapidly, two of the hit men go down.

Then her ammunition runs out.

M Cornel : Shit!

Direction : She glances at the raft moored just a few meters away.

The hit men have taken cover.

She picks up the baby and runs for the raft.

The hit men spot her and move forward.

Hit man : Get her!

Direction : The hit men open fire.

SCENE 23

Direction : Kurtis walks through the smoke of battle.

His mother is crouching down, covering the infant with her body.

M Cornel : Kurtis? Is that you?

Kurtis : Yes. It’s me.

M Cornel : They said someone would come – but how …?

Kurtis : I don’t know. All I know for sure is you need to get out of here – and quickly!

Direction : Kurtis helps them onto the raft and unties the ropes.

The raft begins to float downstream.

Kurtis raises his hand in farewell as the raft gains speed and disappears into the darkness.

He is left standing alone on the bank.

A ghostly light begins to illuminate his raised hand before quickly spreading down through his body.

Kurtis looks around in surprise before vanishing.

SCENE 24

Direction : Kurtis materializes.

He is crouching on the perimeter of a jungle base, dressed in military fatigues.

A radio com-link is in his ear.

Radio : Choppers are coming in!

Alpha squad will secure the landing zone! Over and out!

Direction : Kurtis stays where he is – frozen by fear.

Kurtis : I know this place.

Ten years ago I was here and saw forty men die in an ambush right in front of me.

I should have seen the tanks. It was my fault. I should have seen the tanks!

Voice over : Remember Kurtis – your future lies within you!

Direction : He shakes his head and carries on.

SCENE 25

Direction : Two military helicopters fly in and drop off troops that spread out around the landing zone.

More troops move forward and take up position facing the command building.

Radio : Alpha squad! Move forward and destroy the command installation!

Over and out!

SCENE 26

Direction : Kurtis stands outside the burning command building.

The sky is full of departing helicopters.

Once again his body glows with the ghostly light and he de-materializes.

SCENE 27

Direction : Kurtis materializes.

He is in a cell.

Strapped onto a torture machine is Major Jean Rochelle.

Kurtis : Oh boy. Not here. Not him!

Major : Kurtis! You came back for me!

Kurtis : Believe me Major, it wasn’t my idea!

Direction : Kurtis pulls a lever and the torture machine releases the Major.

He drops to the floor and looks up at Kurtis.

Major : I knew you wouldn’t leave me here!

Kurtis : Let’s just say I’m acting under higher orders.

Now get up!

Direction : Kurtis hands the Major a pistol then turns and walks out of the cell.

The Major shoves the pistol into his belt and hurries after Kurtis.

Major : You know Kurtis, we always made a great team …

SCENE 28

Direction : Kurtis and the Major climb over the fence and drop down onto the other side.

SCENE 29

Direction : Kurtis and the Major run towards the rescue helicopter.

The Major jumps aboard and turns to face Kurtis.

Major : You know Kurtis, it really pains me to do this.

Direction : The Major pulls his pistol and points it straight at Kurtis’ chest.

He squeezes the trigger. Click! It isn’t loaded.

The Major looks at the pistol in disbelief.

Kurtis : Major, it’s time to go for a ride.

Direction : Kurtis grabs the barrel of the mini-gun mounted in the doorway and swings it violently into the Majors face.

The Major collapses in a heap.

Kurtis turns to the soldier standing by and shouts above the noise of the rotor blades.

Kurtis : Captain! The Major is under arrest for war crimes! Keep him in one piece until the firing squad!

Direction : The helicopter lifts off and flies over the tree tops.

Enemy soldiers appear through the forest and run towards Kurtis.

Kurtis starts to dematerialize and vanishes.

The soldiers come to a puzzled halt.

SCENE 30

Direction : A presidential cavalcade of cars drives down a street.

Subtitle: July 13th 1996 – 2.24PM.

Suddenly gunmen open fire.

The leading car explodes. Then the vehicle at the rear of the column blows up.

Caught between the burning wrecks the president’s security men fight a losing battle.

Into the chaos materializes Kurtis.

He scans the street battle raging around him.

The action appears to be moving in slow motion.

Kurtis : (Voice over). President James Carlton is assassinated by members of his own military forces opposed to the Camp David peace agreement.

Just another dead president – but I was there. I should have stopped it.

Direction : Kurtis runs to the presidents car. The doors are wide open. Dead security men are on the ground.

Kurtis: Mr President! It’s time to get out of here!

Direction : The president comes to Kurtis’ side.

President : Get me to the capital building son! I’ve got a peace agreement to sign!

SCENE 31

Direction : The door is impossible to open.

Kurtis : I can’t open it!

President : Wait! There’s the emergency tunnel! If we can find that, it will lead us right to the state room!

SCENE 32

Direction : Reinforcements arrive and the president is surrounded by a courdon of armed agents.

He sits behind his desk and signs the peace treaty paper.

TV news : (Voice over). In a dramatic and violent conclusion to the Camp David peace deal, president Carlton narrowly avoided an assassination attempt aimed at stopping the signing of the treaty.

An FBI statement said the attack on the president was a well-orchestrated attempt by rogue military units …(fade down).

Direction : The president stands on the steps of the capitol building.

He is holding aloft the treaty paper.

Photographers crowd the president and flash bulbs light up the scene.

Cut to Kurtis standing aside from the crowd on the steps.

He begins to glow and dematerializes from the world.

SCENE 33

Direction : A cavernous missile silo.

Kurtis is chained to one of the booster rockets at the base of the towering missile.

The Colonel (Lucifer) approaches him.

Colonel : So you are awake at last. Good!

Kurtis : You can’t believe how great it is to be back …

Colonel : While you’ve been away I have completed the loading of the missile train.

I thought you would like to know that you have failed – and dwell on that failure while awaiting the launch of this Polaris nuclear missile.

Direction : Kurtis yanks at the chains binding him to the giant rocket.

Colonel : I shouldn’t think you will have long to wait.

I estimate it will take the spy satellites little over a minute to detect the launch of the Omega missiles – after that the opposing computers will fire their nuclear arsenals at one another.

Mutual destruction is guaranteed.

Kurtis : And then what? Who’s going to be left to rule Lucifer?

Colonel : That, my heroic fool is hardly the aim of the game.

I am merely an emissary for a higher power. I exist to carry out their wishes, and do not question their rationality.

Like you I can only serve my masters to the best of my abilities.

Kurtis : Hey, you shouldn’t put yourself down like that.

I’ve seen a side of you that has leadership potential written all over it!

If you’re going for the big A you shouldn’t wimp out at the last rung!

Direction : The Colonel (Lucifer) takes a step forward and looks into Kurtis’ eyes.

Colonel : The hero’s last brave words. Goodbye Kurtis Trent.

Direction : The Colonel turns and walks out of the missile silo.

The access door slams shut behind him with a metallic thud and motors lock it in place.

SCENE 34

Direction : Kurtis is spotted and the alarm is sounded.

The Colonel turns to face Kurtis but thinks better of it and rolls under the massive blast door just before it crashes shut.

SCENE 35

Direction : The Colonel (Lucifer) is standing on the loading platform as the last Omega missile is lowered into its silo onboard the armoured train.

Cut to the blast door.

The missile detonates against the door and it is blown apart.

The Colonel (Lucifer) spins around and tries to see through the billowing fire and smoke.

A figure walks out of the devastation.

Colonel : No! Why can’t you just die?!

Direction : The Colonel (Lucifer) grabs a com-link and shouts into it.

Colonel : Lieutenant! Get this train moving! Now!

Direction : The train starts to pull out of the loading hanger.

The Colonel (Lucifer) stands astride the missile wagon.

He rages at the soldiers around him.

Colonel : Kill him! Kill him now!

SCENE 36

Direction : Interior of the command car.

The Colonel (Lucifer) and Kurtis face one another.

Kurtis : Game over Lucifer.

Colonel : You think you have won?!

Why the game has only just begun!

Direction : The Colonel stands on a lift platform and is taken up to the roof of the command car wagon.

Kurtis turns and climbs the ladder.

Direction : Cut to the exterior of the command car wagon.

Kurtis climbs out on to the roof.

The Colonel (Lucifer) is standing with his back to Kurtis further down the wagon.

He turns to face Kurtis.

Colonel : I should have killed you when I had the chance!

But now is not the time to be wasting words!

Direction : The Colonel’s body is transfigured into a true demonic creature.

Huge black wings unfurl into the slipstream.

Lucifer is now in his true form.

He leaps from the command car onto one of the missile silo wagons and rips away two of the hatches as if they were made of paper.

Kurtis can only watch in horror.

Kurtis : He’s going for the warheads …

Direction : Lucifer reaches inside the two silos and pulls out the warhead canisters.

With a cry of rage he spreads his wings and launches into the sky –

the warheads gripped between his talons.

Direction : Cut back to Kurtis. He stands alone on the wagon roof.

He looks around. Nothing left to fight with. No guns. No missiles. Nothing to hit back with.

Suddenly the words come back to him. The words from the mine.

Kurtis : (Sotto voice). Whatever your past was – your future lies within you.

Direction : He tenses himself and repeats the words, focusing his mind.

Kurtis : Whatever my past was – the future lies within me!

Direction : Kurtis glows with a ghostly light.

His body is orbited by particles of fire.

He begins to change. Transfiguring into a higher form of creature.

Kurtis : Whatever my past was – the future lies within me!

Direction : Cut to Kurtis’ feet. The primitive human weapons drop onto the floor at his feet. They are smouldering with the extreme heat of the transfiguration.

Camera elevates up Kurtis body.

Cut to arms and pan upwards.

Cut to wings and pan downwards.

Cut to chest and elevate upwards. Focus on Kurtis transfigured face.

Kurtis : Let’s do it.

Direction : Cut to Kurtis standing on the roof of the wagon. Full figure in the frame.

He gives his wings an experimental flap. Turns to face where Lucifer was heading and launches himself into the sky.

SCENE 37

Direction : Military helicopters fly in formation over the city.

Controller : (Voice over). Cobra leader – this is air-space command.

We have two unidentified incoming hostiles on the scope.

You are clear to take offensive action. Good hunting.

Direction : The helicopters bank away over the city and split up.

SCENE 38

Direction : Lucifer is dying.

He clutches the nuclear warhead and starts to super-heat himself. The warhead starts to glow with the intense heat being generated.

Lucifer : One … last …deed ….

Direction : Cut to Kurtis. He is circling the glowing Lucifer.

Kurtis : He’s using himself to ignite the nuclear reaction!

Direction : Kurtis dives down on Lucifer.

As he rockets earthwards he generates an energy shield which streams out behind him in a burning trail.

Kurtis starts to orbit around Lucifer, the trailing shield forming a spherical mesh around the demon.

Kurtis succeeds in enclosing Lucifer in the energy shield but the effort has left him exhausted.

He tumbles earthwards like a falling leaf, barely able to keep himself aloft.

Direction : Cut to inside the spherical energy shield.

Lucifer is just a glowing hot shape – the nuclear warhead reaches ignition temperature and detonates.

Cut to exterior of spherical shield.

The shield contains the nuclear blast. It glows white-hot over the city then fades to a blazing ball of orange.

When the blast has been spent the shield suddenly shatters into millions of brilliant shards of light.

SCENE 39

Direction : A dirty side walk on the city streets.

Kurtis floats down from the sky. His power finally runs out ten feet above the ground and he lands heavily on the ground, rolling to a halt against a trash can.

Cut to Kurtis’ POV. He is looking up at the sky and buildings around him.

Kurtis : (Voice over). Breathing hard, groaning in pain.

The sound of a vehicle pulling up can be heard.

A voice calls out.

Professor : Hey! Mister! You want a lift?

Direction : A pickup truck stands at the kerb. The Professor is driving.

Direction : Kurtis gets to his feet and gets in the pickup truck.

The truck drives away.

Professor : (Voice over). Where to?

Kurtis : (Voice over). You know, I’ve always wanted to go to …

LINKING PARANORMAL POWERS

The player can link two powers together.

They will need to do this if they want to see through a locked door with the x-ray vision and levitate an object on the other side of the door.

Select the Paranormal powers inventory (L1 + D PAD – UP ARROW) and scroll an item into the hi-lighted selection area with the D PAD – UP/DOWN arrows.

Keep the L1 button depressed and now press D PAD – RIGHT ARROW and a duplicate inventory pops up.

Repeat the selection (D PAD – UP ARROW) process and when the L1 button is released the player is returned to the game with their choice of linked paranormal powers.

PARANORMALLY ENHANCED FIREPOWER

All of the weapons in the Hand weapon and Throwing weapon inventory can be power-boosted by combining Hand weapons and Throwing weapons with the Psychic power button.

As Kurtis becomes more ‘paranormal’, (indicated on the paranormal meter bar) his guns and grenades can be infused with occult energy to pack a bigger punch.

The appearance of the bullets and grenades will also change. A burning halo appears around them as they fly towards their target.

Select a Hand weapon or Throwing weapon.

Hold down the L1 – Psychic power

Ammo

Paranormal energy

Mortal energy

Keys

Occult artifacts

Evil antidote

PSYCHIC POWER – KURTIS TRANSFORMATION

When Kurtis uses his paranormal powers his appearance changes in subtle ways.

Apart from residual energy auras and ghostly special effects, his physical appearance will alter.

Hair becomes charged and glows.

His eyes burn with a blue fire.

Clothing becomes charged and floats away from his body.

GAME MAP BUILDING

Dimensions are in meters. Y axis is up.

Steps, stairs, walkways, doorways, windows, machines, ladders and furniture will all be built in metric scale.

See Kurtis Trent character animations for the characters walk/jump distances.

USING THE ENVIRONMENT TO FULL EFFECT

The game world will feature pits, ledges and suspended walkways and bridges.

Enemy characters can be thrown from high points while suspended walkways can be dropped on top of enemies.

PLAYABLE CUT SCENE SEQUENCES

Some cut scenes will require the player to interact with the action.

This can be as simple as pressing a button on the control pad at a certain time to ‘help’ one of the characters achieve a task in the film.

PARANORMAL WEAPON TRAINING

The player must master the powers before being allowed to use them in the game.

Failure to master a power does not end the game, but leaves Kurtis vulnerable.

If Kurtis practices his powers often they will become easier to control and also more powerful.

The Professor will pop in and chide Kurtis for not practicing enough. This warning stops when Kurtis has reached a certain level of proficiency.

TRAINING SUB GAMES

Professor Francis instructs Kurtis in how to use the paranormal weapons.

These training sessions will take the form of simple sub games.

When a training session begins, the camera fly’s into Kurtis mind and the player is transported to a room suitable for the lesson. This could be anything – a Japanese style interior or a deserted temple.

SNARES

Web – Sticky and saps Kurtis’ paranormal powers.

Bubble – Transparent energy ball that blocks Kurtis’ path.

Vortex – Step on this and you are spun around while your energy is drained.

Trip wires (linked to Traps).

TRAPS

Dark mist – Brings down a dark cloud that restricts the players view distance.

Gas – A cloud of poisonous gas wells out of the floor. This will sap Kurtis’ strength.

Scatter bombs – These are occult symbols that appear on the floor.

They move in random patterns, crossing each others path.

If Kurtis treads on them they will explode and sap his energy.

Demon sentry – This alerts a demon guard who will materialize and fight Kurtis.

Psychic disrupter – Emits a chaff effect that disrupts the Map scanners display.

SAVE GAME POINTS

The save point where the player can store their game is represented by a wall mounted telephone kiosk.

These telephones are placed around the level and are activated by walking up and pressing the CROSS (action) button on the controller.

An option screen appears showing the previous save positions in the city.

Add your current position to the list.

The player’s current energy, inventory, weapons and location in the game world are stored on the PS2 memory card.

Highlight the EXIT command with the D PAD – RIGHT ARROW and press the CROSS (action) button to return to the game world.

ONSCREEN METERS – MORTAL ENERGY METER

This onscreen meter indicates the amount of energy the player has remaining.

ONSCREEN METERS – PARANORMAL ENERGY METER

This onscreen power meter indicates the amount of psychic charge being used when the player presses the L1 – Psychic power button.

The diagram below shows the power scale.

The longer the L1 – Physic power button is held the greater the eventual discharge of energy.

If the player exceeds the safe zone limit and enters the danger zone then the eventual discharge of energy can have unpredictable effects on Kurtis and his surroundings.

These can be one of the following:

Kurtis dies (if mortal energy is low).

Shape change

Kill mortals in the immediate vicinity

Fire storm

ONSCREEN METERS – AMMUNITION

A three digit figure is displayed indicating the number of rounds remaining in the currently selected weapon.

INTERFACE DESIGN

KURTIS’ MORTAL ENERGY – REFUELING

To replenish physical energy levels:

Eat and drink the food pickups.

Another way is to avoid expending energy and wait. Kurtis’ mortal energy level will creep slowly up to its former position, but will never rise above without collecting more pick-ups.

KURTIS’ PARANORMAL ENERGY – REFUELING

When an enemy is defeated it will drop energy pick-ups.

Kurtis grabs these and they increase his paranormal abilities and slow the rate that his paranormal energy is expended.

After a set number of energy pick-ups have been collected, Kurtis will receive new paranormal powers.

Another way is to avoid using paranormal powers and wait. As time passes Kurtis’ paranormal energy level will creep slowly up to its former position, but will never rise above without collecting more pick-ups.

EVIL OR GOOD – PLAYER CHOICE

This meter shows how ‘evil’ or ‘good’ Kurtis has become while playing the game.

Evil pros

Progress faster through the game by killing anything that moves. (Demon or human).

Evil cons

Kurtis is more susceptible to demon attack. (His power drains faster in combat).

He can’t enter certain protected holy rooms and must use an antidote to restore his good rating.

See: “Antidote for evil”

Good pros

Keeps Kurtis’ energy high and it lasts longer in combat.

Good cons

Progress more slowly through the game by using controlled violence.

ANTIDOTE FOR EVIL

This pick up will restore Kurtis good rating and allow him to enter rooms protected with a spell to repel evil.

EVIL OR GOOD – ANIMATION CHANGES

Depending on how ‘evil’ or ‘good’ Kurtis is played, the character animations change accordingly.

A ‘good’ Kurtis will hold back and only use his fists on a human, but an ‘evil’ Kurtis will use a more violent set of animations with a knife or gun move.

DOOR PUZZLES

Using the LV amulet – Part 3 Kurtis can x-ray a locked and bolted door.

Using the mind control power he can then slide or rotate the lock mechanisms into an open position.

Lock mechanisms will be in the form of Chinese sliding block puzzles.

There is no time limit on them and the player can have as many attempts as they need.

PROFESSOR TO KURTIS INFORMATION LINK UP

The Professor can help Kurtis with hints and tips through the voice com-link – a micro video camera attached to Kurtis’ head allows the Professor to see what Kurtis is looking at.

The Professor will request Kurtis to look at a certain object in the room. If Kurtis does this the Professor will identify it and supply some information on how to tackle the problem.

As Kurtis’ power increases this electronic link is superceded by a telepathic connection.

Both methods will be liable to demonic/electronic jamming that will deprive Kurtis of his back up.

MULTI-PLAYER GAME

Up to four players can choose to play the main characters from the game.

Special mini-missions will be available:

1. Capture the flag.

2. Timed obstacle course.

3. Death match.

These environments will be unique to the multi-player option, but will use the texture banks created for the main game.

WEATHER EFFECTS

Weather will be used to add atmosphere, but can also add to the game play.

For instance, a dark room can be illuminated by a lighting flash to reveal enemies hiding in the dark, while snow and ice can make a surface slippery.

Lux Veritatis Sub-site Discovered

We were going through our backup of Tomb Raider the Angel of Darkness website and discovered a some-sort of a minigame. It was in a /luxveritatis subfolder and includes buttons, which bring puzzles in pop-up windows. Unfortunately, we could not retrieve more pages or puzzles themselves. Nevertheless, it makes us wonder what this page was for and what would the prize be upon finishing the puzzles.

You can visit the page by following this link:

http://traod.tomb-of-ash.com/luxveritatis

Please be aware that it is Flash powered and as such may not work on mobile phones, tablets and certain browsers (Google Chrome seems to hate it, but Internet Explorer and Edge work just fine)

In the light of recent discoveries made on the cancelled Kurtis Trent spin-off game I believe there is no doubt that the game was planned and Core Design were even making a website for it.

Kurtis game – Synopsis

A dark night in the city.

Trash blows across the parking lot, the ground wet and flickering under the harsh lights of the emergency vehicles parked behind a cordon of police cruisers.

Cautious cops approach the shattered building, double handed grip on their drawn firearms.

A sign flaps in the wind – “City Asylum – Main Entrance”

Kurtis stands amongst the debris. The place is a mess.

“Looks like someone started a war in here.” Walking further into the dark corridors confirms Kurtis’ assessment. Something bad has gone down tonight and mixed up in it is the Professor.

Kurtis heads for the Professor’s office. The door is open, glass crunches under his feet as he enters. No one at home – but a sound from the bathroom attracts his attention.

The Professor is alive, sitting on the floor and nursing a damaged arm.

“I got your message – looks like I’m too late.” says Kurtis.

“No. It’s my fault – I thought I could contain it. But it’s growing all the time and …” The Professor looks at Kurtis with haunted eyes. “We have to find it – if it escapes into the city …”

Kurtis draws his weapon – the Demon Hunter is on the case.

Using his paranormal powers Kurtis tracks down and confronts the cause of so much devastation – a demonically possessed boy called Lucifer.

This child has powers the like of which Kurtis has never imagined existed and he is powerless to stop Lucifer from escaping into the city.

A manhunt begins, with Lucifer concealing himself by changing his appearance – infesting host after host until he possesses the bodies of influential personalities who control the city’s underworld and military alliances.

Suddenly Lucifer’s goal is revealed – to tip the world into a nuclear fueled Armageddon!

The battle rages across the city until Kurtis is sent spinning into a coma where he revisits key moments of his life.

This experience unlocks the powerful paranormal abilities that Kurtis will need to defeat the increasingly powerful Lucifer.

And all the while the countdown to Armageddon is ticking …

STORY FLOW

Kurtis Trent – (Bounty Hunter) called to the city Asylum by his friend Professor Edward Francis.

Finds Professor Edward Francis – (Paranormal Scientist) in a state of shock.

A patient has developed destructive paranormal powers and has wrecked the institute.

Kurtis hunts Steven Roth – (Child patient) at the asylum.

The boy is possesed by the demon called Lucifer.

The boy escapes.

Kurtis Trent and the Professor search the streets in Kurtis’ pickup truck.

Receive mobile phone call. Boy has been found by police and is in custody.

In the police cell. Steven Roth (Child patient) (Lucifer), is in adjoining cell to Colonel Boris Malcochek. Russian gangster.

Lucifer jumps from the boy to the Colonel.

The Colonel (Lucifer), is released on bail.

As the Colonel (Lucifer), leaves the police station he passes Kurtis and the Professor coming in the opposite direction.

For a split second Kurtis locks eyes with the Colonel (Lucifer), (his sixth sense is tingling like crazy), then shrugs and hurries after the Professor.

In the boy’s cell the Professor scans for signs of demonic possesion.

The scanner is registering normal background levels.

Kurtis realises that something has happened and runs after the Russian Colonel (Lucifer).

The Colonel’s (Lucifer), car pulls off just as Kurtis reaches it.

He and the Professor get in the pickup truck and chase it.

The Colonel’s (Lucifer), car is protected by reinforcements and escapes inside a stronghold building.

Kurtis and the Professor shoot their way into the stronghold.

They search it and find evidence of the deadly Piraniah virus.

An Ebola variant designed by the Russian military for a secret bio-weapons program. It has been smuggled into the USA by the Colonel’s criminal network.

The Colonel’s (Lucifer), helicopter crashes as he tries to escape.

His cat is the only survivor and in the seconds before the impact the creature was taken over by Lucifer. It escapes into the night.

Kurtis and the Professor share a visionary dream where the cat and Dr Phil Yates are together in a library.

They over hear a conversation between the Doctor and Lucifer.

They go to the Doctors mansion to investigate.

The Dr has been taken over by Lucifer.

Kurtis fights his way into a conference where Dr Phil Yates (Lucifer), and Major Jean Rochelle exchange technology for cash.

The Dr is selling nano-technology to the Major who is working for a rogue nation state. This country’s dictator wants the deadly Piraniah virus and the nano-technology to be combined into a weapon of self-replicating mass destruction.

The Major has a freighter with a secret laboratory onboard.

The plan is to manufacture the deadly nano-tech virus out in the safety of international waters.

From there the lethal cargo will be transferred to other ships and distributed to whatever terrorist gang is crazy enough to use it.

As Kurtis fights his way into the conference, Lucifer jumps from the Doctor to Major Jean Rochelle.

The Major (Lucifer), guns down the Doctor when he escapes from Kurtis in a helicopter. (He reasons that the Doctor knows too much).

Kurtis rolls over a dead guard. The man is wearing a Russian sailors outfit under his over coat.

This gives Kurtis the clue to investigate the city docks.

Major Jean Rochelle (Lucifer), has been turned by the demon and is now planning to use the deadly Piraniah virus for himself.

He plans to pump it into huge rail tanker wagons and transport it by train into the city.

Then an explosive charge on each of the wagons will spread the virus across the city and eventually around the world as the population panic and try to escape from the airports.

Kurtis finds the Russian freighter at the docks and boards the ship.

In the ensuing fight with the Major (Lucifer), he is knocked unconscious and is sent back to key moments in his life.

First he must save his mother – Marie Cornel and infant self from a death squad in an abandoned mine complex.

Next he is transported to a military raid and has the opportunity to re-write history.

Then he is sent to rescue his arch enemy Major Jean Rochelle from an enemy prison. (This episode happened ten years earlier when they served in the army).

Lastly, Kurtis has to protect the President from an army assasination squad.

Each of these experiences gives Kurtis a new paranormal power so that when he wakes up he is more powerful and can fight the Major (Lucifer), on equal terms.

The Major (Lucifer), is beaten back by Kurtis and decides to escape on the train carrying the deadly virus.

The rail tanker wagons have been concealed inside the freighter’s hold and as they emerge into the open Kurtis leaps from the ship and lands on the last wagon.

Kurtis fights his way along the train.

Each tanker wagon has an explosive charge planted on it and Kurtis has to disarm each wagon in turn.

Finally he confronts the Major (Lucifer).

Lucifer then emerges in his true demonic form and grabbing a canister of the lethal Piraniah virus he flies into the city.

Kurtis transforms himself into a winged warrior and pursues the demon.

They fight over the city.

Military helicopter and missiles try to shoot both of them down,

Finally Lucifer is beaten, but in a suicidal last act he begins the countdown to detonate the Piraniah nano-tech bomb.

Kurtis throws an energy shield around the demon and the bomb and when it explodes the effect is contained.

Drained by this last act Kurtis tumbles from the sky.

He has lost his paranormal powers and is now ‘human’.

President James Carlton

President of USA

A scanner that shows the game world as a top down two dimensional map.

Paranormal hot spots show up as red pulsing blobs.

The locations of mortals are shown as green lozenges.

Kurtis appears as a central blue icon in the center of the screen.

The scanner always orientates itself to the North.

It appears as a semi-transparent HUD map over the game world which allows the player to keep on steering Kurtis through the environment.

To use the map scanner:

Select map scanner from the inventory. HUD map appears.

Press the CROSS – (action) button to make it disappear.

Time gates

These are inter-dimensional gateways that offer a window into past and future events.

Kurtis can witness actions from other times and receive messages from the past – and future.

While Kurtis can not step through, he can use his mind control powers to capture small non-organic objects and bring them into his dimension.

Time gates are scattered everywhere but are disguised as everyday objects.

To find and use a Time gate:

Select Psychic Aura Scanner from the Psychic inventory.

Scan the area for psychic aura.

When it is revealed the player stands in front of the Time gate and presses the CROSS – (action) button.

The Time gate opens and the Kurtis sees a third person camera view of the action.

PSYWARE

PSYWARE is the military term given to the paranormal abilities of the human mind.

This breaks down into two areas:

Area 1. Psychic powers are concentrated on tactical and information gathering activities.

List of powers:

Out of body eye for reconnaissance.

Aura scanner. For detecting the paranormal.

Mind control of objects. Pick up, move and drop.

Levitation. Limited in height and duration. Quickly depletes energy reserves.

Best used to enhance fighting moves. Kicks, flips etc.

Mind control over life forms. Take control of other creatures’ bodies.

Psychic tap. Kurtis can drain the energy from humans to power up his occult energy reserves.

Area 2. Occult powers are used for offensive and defensive attacks and draw their energy from the energy signatures of all living things.

List of powers:

Directional energy wave.

360 blast energy wave.

PSYWARE booster.

All of the weapons in the Hand weapon and Throwing weapon inventory can be power-boosted by combining Hand weapons and Throwing weapons with the Psychic power button.

The Demon dimension – Where? Who? Why?

The demon dimension is a universe parallel to our own.

In this dimension is a planet where the demons live their lives in much the same way mankind has done for millions of years.

But unlike man, demons evolved down the reptilian branch of life which has resulted in a stunted, aggressive, ritualistic culture where war and conquest are the only goals.

Demon society is therefore somewhat akin to mankind’s medieval past with feudal overlords directing the fates of their minions.

The study of the paranormal is only ‘science’ on the demon world because of its use in war. This knowledge of the occult led to the discovery of the Time Bridges which link the multi-dimensional universe together.

These time bridges allow the demons to invade other worlds for war, plunder and slavery.

Enemy demons.

When a demon breaks through the dimensional barrier, the first thing it wants to do is enslave minions. It does this with a zap of power, turning the victim into a slave. These slaves can be used as assassins or cannon fodder, and spies.

Demons will camouflage their true shape for as long as possible, preferring to take the form of another creature.

Only when the host form has been rendered useless will they appear in their true demonic form.

Demon hunting tends to follow this pattern:

Tracking – the investigation and locating of the demonic infestation.

Mortal combat – combat with the enslaved minions protecting their master.

Paranormal combat – containment and exorcism of the demon itself.

Demonic insurrection squads

These demonic raiders will materialize to kill or kidnap their chosen victim.

They operate as assasins, hostage takers and emissaries for their dark masters.

Demon hierarchy

Demons are structured into clans which are then broken down into further ranks.

A clan is structured in this way:

Dark Emporer – supreme demon ruler.

Dark Knights – the emperors loyal barons, (each controls their own private army and territories but must be loyal to their master at all times).

The Horde – drone soldiers. They follow orders and will fight to the death.

Type 1 – Sword fighter.

Type 2 – Archer.

Type 3 – Artillery

Gargoyles – employed as spies, assassins and couriers.

Demon hybrids

These are sub-species of demon that have adapted and changed their appearance and bodies.

Hybrid 1 – Uses cybernetics to enhance their physical prowess and their ability to live in the human world.

Hybrid 2 – ENTER DARRENS CREATURES HERE

The Time Bridge

The Time Bridge is a natural glitch in the space/time barrier that separates all universes from one another.

It spans between two universes and acts as a bridge, allowing matter to travel back and forth.

At each end of the bridge are the seven keystones.

These paranormal anchors hold the bridge steady in the dimensional vortex but can not stop the Time Bridge from following its migration over the Earth.

The migration pattern of the bridge seems to correlate with powerful ley lines running through the planets core.

To stop this movement the seven keystones must be turned to face the center of the formation. This effectively applies the breaks to the Time Bridge and it will come to a halt.

The ancients who discovered the Time Bridge realized its potential for evil so they erected an occult barrier to bar unwanted guests from other dimensions. This door requires a key that takes the form of a code sequence.

The only surviving code lies in the LUX VERITATIS Occult Database.

The Time Bridge – Demon insurrections of the past

There is recorded evidence that the Time Bridge was used by the Demons during recent Earth history.

As far back as the Crusades there is reference to a troop of English Knights discovering the gateway.

This comes from the eye witness account of a Franciscan Monk who writes of a glowing white entrance appearing on top of a mountain range in the Holy Lands.

Thinking this was the path to the Promised Land the Knights entered and where never seen again.

The second incident is noted in the diaries and field reports of a French artillery unit serving during World War One.

They mention that during a night attack a huge phosphorous glow was seen over the front line area that continued to glow for many hours.

The next day a dawn patrol was sent to investigate and reported that hundreds of soldiers in that sector had been killed and stripped of their weapons. It was only after the end of the war that the same account was found in German field reports.

Demons steal weapons of mass destruction technology

Demons are evil and cunning but they lack mankind’s self-destructive streak when it comes to designing weapons of mass destruction.

During the crusades they discovered the crossbow – (a weapon so terrible the then Pope said it would end all wars!)

In World War One they took the machine gun and the airship – (both weapons of mass destruction – the Zeplin was the first aircraft to drop bombs on a civilian city).

Present day – INTER-CONTINENTAL BALLISTIC MISSILE SYSTEM – (mankind’s best attempt yet at DIY-extinction).

Sealing inter-dimensional gateways

The gateways are used by the demons to enter our world.

As they are the demons escape exit they are heavily defended by the enslaved minions.

To seal up the gateway Kurtis must use his Directional energy wave.

Fire the energy wave at the gateway and within a few seconds it will close.

This action will severely deplete Kurtis’ paranormal energy supply.

Game structure.

Handed to Kurtis by his mother. This is not a happy family reunion.

Kurtis is bitter at his fathers’ absence and his mothers enforced exile from him.

The diary is not something he immediately values.

Game will use diary to provide background to enemy characters weaknesses.

The Lux Veritatis charms

Body charm 1 – True sight

Amulet that when Kurtis picks it up it burns a symbol onto the palm of his hand.

The tattoo will glow when occult danger is in the vicinity.

Body charm 2 – Pillar of strength

Onscreen meters – Psychic power meter

This onscreen power meter indicates the amount of psychic charge being used when the player presses the L1 – Psychic power button.

The diagram below shows the power scale.

The longer the L1 – Physic power button is held the greater the eventual discharge of energy.

If the player exceeds the safe zone limit and enters the danger zone then the eventual discharge of energy can have unpredictable effects on Kurtis and his surroundings.

These can be one of the following:

Kurtis dies (if mortal energy is low).

Shape change

Kill mortals in the immediate vicinity

Fire storm

Psychic power – Kurtis transformation

When Kurtis uses his paranormal powers his appearance changes in subtle ways.

Apart from residual energy auras and ghostly special effects, his physical appearance will alter.

Hair becomes charged and glows.

His eyes burn with a blue fire.

Clothing becomes charged and floats away from his body.

Onscreen meters – Mortal energy meter

This onscreen meter indicates the amount of energy the player has remaining.

Run over the energy pick ups to replenish Kurtis’ energy.

Onscreen meters – Ammunition

A three digit figure is displayed indicating the number of rounds remaining in the currently selected weapon.

Game map building

Dimensions are in meters. Y axis is up.

Steps, stairs, walkways, doorways, windows, machines, ladders and furniture will all be built in metric scale.

See Kurtis Trent character animations for the characters walk/jump distances.

Deforming in game objects

Kurtis can deform objects (crush them) in one of two ways.

Directional energy wave – fire the energy beam at an object and it will be crushed.

Mind control – pick up an object and smash it into a solid barrier.

The effect of an object being crushed is achieved by moving the objects vertices inwards and downwards. They will have a field of influence that stops them intersecting and cutting through neighbouring polygons.

Using the environment to full effect

The game world will feature pits, ledges and suspended walkways and bridges.

Enemy characters can be thrown from high points while suspended walkways can be dropped on top of enemies.

Psychic disrupter – Emits a chaff effect which disrupts the Map scanners display.

Ghosts and gouls

When Kurtis uses his psychic aura scanner to check humans for demonic possession, he will also be able to see any passing ghosts or ghouls in the vicinity.

These transparent visions are harmless and go about their business in period costume. They do not interact with the player and will pass straight through any solid object in their path, (including Kurtis).

Demon technology

Demon technology is a mish-mash hybrid of human ingenuity and occult magic.

Highly volatile and often just plain dangerous to operate, their machines and devices resemble a Victorian eccentrics laboratory experiment.

Father Francis tricks Kurtis

Father Francis has spent a lifetime studying the Lux Veratatis and occult powers but he can’t actually make them work.

This has made the old priest bitter with resentment, and the demons have exploited his weakness.

In exchange for the priests help in opening up the dimensional gateway they have offered to transfer Kurtis’ paranormal powers to Father Francis.

The key to the dimensions

When Kurtis gains his fourth and final Lux Veratatis charm (Wisdom of ages), he is given the knowledge to open the dimension gateway seperating demon and human realities.

The demons plan is simple. Use Kurtis as the key.

The game episode progression

The game world is split into eight districts.

The player will start the game in district one. When this is completed the next district is unlocked.

After completing this district the player has the option of continuing to the next district or revisiting the previous one.

This continues throughout the game.

Why should the player revisit a district?

When the player does revisit a district they will find one or two small missions waiting for them. These are not connected to the main game but will give the player the opportunity to try out their powers and weapons from further on in the game.

For instance, a tough street gang that Kurtis couldn’t beat the first time around can now be tackled with the powers he has mastered further on in the game.

Save game points

The save point where the player can store their game is represented by a wall mounted telephone kiosk.

These telephones are placed around the level and are activated by walking up and pressing the CROSS (action) button on the controller.

An option screen appears showing the previous save positions in the city.

Add your current position to the list.

The players current energy, inventory, weapons and location in the game world are stored on the PS2 memory card.

High light the EXIT command with the D PAD – RIGHT ARROW and press the CROSS (action) button to return to the game world.

SYNOPSIS V1

Kurtis is approached by a priest and asked to come to a house where there is a severe case of demonic possession.

During the car journey the priest tells a tale of a normal happy child turned by degrees into a demonic creature gifted with destructive paranormal powers. The priest has been working with the child for over a month but now things have gone too far and he has come to Kurtis with a request – kill the child.

Kurtis is shocked but before he can argue the car pulls up outside an ordinary looking suburban home – but something has happened while the priest was away.

A police car is parked in the drive, lights flashing, the doors open with the radio requesting the patrols location.

On entering the house they find the child’s parents burned and torn bodies littering the floor – the cops called to the disturbance murdered in much the same way.

They cautiously enter the child’s bedroom and find a boy of twelve sitting on the bed playing a computer game.

“Kill it!” urges the priest and Kurtis draws his pistol, unsure if he can shoot a child.

Suddenly a woman appears behind him holding a pistol.

She is under the child’s influence and opens fire, killing the priest and wounding Kurtis before being shot down herself.

Kurtis staggers to his feet and turns to face the child but the bed is empty.

With no time to lose Kurtis begins a hunt for the boy – realizing that this is more than possession, but a demonic changeling – an exact copy that is cared for by its unsuspecting human parents until maturity when it will hatch into its true form.

They can only hope that the missing alter-ego of the demon child is still alive somewhere and that they get to him before time runs out.

Meanwhile the changeling is recruiting a small army of thugs to protect itself from Kurtis.

The energy from these enslaved drones is food to the demon-child and the more weak minds it recruits the more it will grow in power.

But killing it isn’t an option when Kurtis realizes that to do so will also kill the abducted human child.

Eventually Kurtis tracks down and defeats the changeling. Using the creature as a key he unlocks a doorway into another dimension and sets out to rescue the missing boy.

This world is a demonic reality and one where our physical laws do not apply.

Kurtis’ guns will only slow down the creatures in this dark realm and he must use all of the paranormal powers learned in the hunt for the changeling to rescue the abducted child and return it to our world where the boys appearance will banish the evil changeling back to the dark dimensions.

Level 1 – Hospital

The level starts with Kurtis in the hospital reception.

He must locate the Professor who will give him information about the case.

The hospital has been ransacked. Dead bodies are everywhere.

Survivors are dangerous.

Whole walls and floors have been blown away making exploration difficult.

The Professor is in his laboratory, a bandage wraped around his forehead, arm in a sling.

He tells Kurtis that the patient he was studying is gifted with extremely dangerous paranormal powers. These powers have been unleashed, hence the wrecked hospital and dead bodies.

Kurtis continues his search while the Professor (wounded), stays put.

Using his paranormal sense he tracks the patient down in the morgue. The patient is an eleven year old boy.

The boy says nothing but makes a sign with his hand. The storage lockers slide open and the dead rise to attack Kurtis. The boy smashes up through the ceiling leaves Kurtis to fight the dead.

Kurtis escapes and following his senses he heads for the roof. The police are now searching the hospital, and Kurtis has to avoid them.

On the roof he confronts the boy, who escapes.

The police make it to the roof and Kurtis has to work his way down the fire-escapes on the outside of the building. Avoid the helicopter search lights and police search squads.

On the ground and Kurtis gets into his truck. The Professor is waiting for him.

Professor says – “You can’t kill the demon child. You must find and return the abducted human to our world. That will weaken the demon to a point where you can kill it.”

Level 2 – Triad Fortess

Kurtis tracks down the boy to Chinatown. He is being protected in a Triad fortress.

Kurtis fights his way inside and searches the building.

The Triad soldiers defend every inch of ground.

Kurtis confronts the Triad boss. He aura scans the boss and realizes that the boy has shape changed into this fat criminal. Before Kurtis can move the Triad boss touches a Siamese cat that darts out of the window. (This is how the Anti-Christ transfers himself from host to host.)

Kurtis fights and defeats the Triad boss, but he has let the demon child escape.

Level 3 – Gothic Mansion

Two months later …

Kurtis breaks into the creepy mansion of billionaire software entrepreneur Dr Phil Yates.

The Dr is building a complex software system for the US military.

Kurtis’ paranormal investigations have led him to this place, now he goes into action, fighting and exploring his way to the nerve center of the Dr’s empire.

In the Dr’s study.

(Washing itself by the fire is the cat from Level 2.)

Meanwhile the Dr is delivering the final part of the software system. An air force Colonel takes the briefcase from the Dr and shakes his hand. The Anti-Christ transfers itself into the Colonel who leaves the mansion.

Seconds later Kurtis bursts in and scans the Dr for a paranormal aura but nothing shows up. He beats him up for the hell of it and gets the key to the computer system hidden in the Dr’s study.

From this he learns the location of the military base.

Level 4 – Military Base

Kurtis infiltrates the base.

Fights the soldiers, uses his paranormal powers to evade the security defenses.

Discovers the train carrying the nuclear missiles.

(Realizes that the Anti-Christ plans to launch the missiles, start Armageddon blah, blah.)

Confronts the Colonel. Kills him. The Anti-Christ appears in its original child like form.

It opens a gateway and demon warriors teleport in to protect it. Kurtis fights and wins, then turns to finish off the Anti-Christ.

The Anti-Christ shows Kurtis a vision of the imprisoned human child that was abducted when the demons swapped the boy for the Anti-Christ. “ If you kill me – he dies too!”

Kurtis dives through the gateway into the demon realm – now he is on a rescue mission to get the human child back.

Level 5 – Demon Realm – Desert and Dark Citadel – Level 1

Kurtis is standing in a desert. In the distance towers the Dark Citadel, a huge city rising from the arid plain.

Kurtis must make his way to the Dark Citadel, avoiding the creatures and vehicles that populate the desert.

When he has crossed the desert he has to enter the lower level of the Dark Citadel.

This level of the Citadel is the ‘engine room’, supplying power to the upper levels of the fortress.

Grinding wheels, furnaces and gantries are everywhere.

Kurtis must explore and fight his way through this industrial hell.

Level 6 – Demon Realm – Dark Citadel Level 2

This part of the Citadel is a stone fortress.

Draw bridges, battlements, dungeons. Heavily fortified and defended.

Kurtis must explore and fight his way upwards where the palace rises from the center of the fortress.

Level 7 – Dark Citadel – Level 3

The human child is held prisoner in the palace.

The palace is a gothic marble clad nightmare. The proportions are huge. Vaulted ceilings and wide concourses make Kurtis look small and vulnerable.

Kurtis must fight and explore his way to the throne room. Here the human child is held prisoner in a glass dome.

Defeat the Devil Master and release the boy.

Teleport out of the demon realm back to the military base in Level 4.

Level 8 – Final Confrontation

Kurtis returns with the human child. The presence of the boy will weaken the Anti-Christ and force it to return to its true form.

A head to head battle with the Anti-Christ takes place. Kurtis must use his shield to keep the human child alive while he fights.

Kurtis forces the Anti-Christ to reveal its true demonic form and the creature escapes death by leaping onto the moving missile train as it passes by.

Kurtis leaves the human child and follows, jumping onto the last train wagon.

Kurtis must now fight his way up the moving train to the control car and stop the Anti-Christ from launching the nuclear missiles.

With seconds to spare Kurtis manages to stop the main missile launch, but the Anti-Christ hot wires a nuke and the missile hurtles skyward.

Kurtis has to stop the nuke so he trans-mutates into an Arch Angel and launches himself into the sky.

Over Washington DC – Kurtis and the Anti-Christ fight in an air-to-air duel.

Alerted to the incoming missile strike, the army has soldiers firing Stinger missiles from the rooftops and helicopter gun ships patrolling the skies. The military has orders to shoot at both Kurtis and the demon.

Kurtis defeats the Anti-Christ and absorbs the missiles nuclear blast.

He tumbles from the sky, hitting the pavement with a thud.

His spectacular paranormal powers are now burned out. He is mortal again.

A car pulls up. The Professor offers him a ride. Kurtis gets in. The car pulls away.

Game completed.

SYNOPSIS V2

A dark night in the city.

Trash blows across the parking lot, the ground wet and flickering under the bright lights of the emergency vehicles parked behind a cordon of police cruisers.

Cautious cops approach the shattered building, double handed grip on their drawn firearms. A sign flaps in the wind – “City Hospital – Main Entrance”

Kurtis stands in the accident and emergency department. The place is a mess.

“Looks like someone started a war in here.” Walking further into the hospital’s corridors confirms Kurtis’ assessment. Something bad has gone down tonight and mixed up in it is the Professor.

Kurtis heads for the Professor’s office. The door is open, glass crunches under his feet as he enters. No one at home – but a sound from the bathroom attracts Kurtis’ attention.

“I understand.” Kurtis draws his weapon and disappears into the devastation – the demon hunter is back in business.

But what Kurtis believes is just another bug hunt quickly becomes a ride into the unknown – for this is no routine exorcism but a demonic plan to slide the world into a nuclear fueled Armageddon.

“Demon Spawn”, utters the Professor under his breath.

It is later and the Professor and Kurtis drive the dark streets hoping to pick up a trace of their escaped quarry.

Kurtis glances at the Professor.

He continues,,“The Spawn is an exact copy of the human child – not even the parents would suspect. But somehow through transference they become linked, and to kill one is to destroy the other. This creature also has the ability to steal any animals shape, but will revert back to its original form when weakened.”

Kurtis checks the mirrors. “So you’re telling me I got something that looks like a kid, got the power to chew up hospitals for kicks and can change its shape at any time – but I can’t zap it because the host kid will croak simultaneously?

The Professor stares grimly into the night, “Return the lost child to our world Kurtis – it’s our only hope of stopping whatever it is planning to do!”

The hunt will take Kurtis from the criminal underworld of the city streets to the top of corporate America before crossing the dimensions into the Dark Citadel to rescue the lost child.

And all the while the countdown to annihilation is ticking …

Game world.

A fortress.

Possible game beginnings.

Idea 1.

Kurtis fights in a prize fight. Wins. Kidnapped and wakes up in cell alone with no weapons. Game starts.

Idea 2.

Kurtis and a fellow prisoner are in a cell.

They break out of the cell and have to get out of the prison.

This prisoner will instruct Kurtis during level 01 and introduce the player to the moves and features of the character. The prisoner dies at the end of the level and Kurtis must continue alone.

Idea 3.

Kurtis has to fight in the prison arena.

He wins/loses and is thrown back in his cell.

He must escape from the cell and get out of the prison.

How does the game start?

1. Kurtis and fellow prisoner in a cell.
2. Attract guards attention by the following means:

Set fire to bed with lantern.

Fight fellow prisoner.

Wait ten minutes for food to be delivered.

3. Guard enters the cell. Kill him. The prisoner tells you to put on the guards uniform. When you have put on the uniform the prisoner will follow you automatically out of the cell. He will be your guide/trainer.

Note: If you do not steal his uniform the camera outside the cell warns more guards who will beat you up and throw you back in the cell.

Note : Key to the exit door is in the uniform. You cannot open the door without wearing the uniform.

4. Leave the cell with the prisoner and use the key found in the guards uniform to open the exit door leading out of the cell block and into the prison.

The first level of the game will teach the player what Kurtis can do in the game.

What rooms are in the prison?

Cells.

Eating area.

Guard room.

Armoury.

Wash room.

Surveillance room.

Guard room.

Lifts, stairways, balconies, light wells/vent shafts, corridors and gates.

High security cells.

Medical room.

In the cells are other prisoners. Why should Kurtis release them?

1. Prisoners will home in on the guards and attack them.

2. Prisoners will run into areas and set off alarms that attract guards.

3. Weight of prisoners bodies may be useful in some puzzles.

4. Cannon fodder. They sacrifice themselves in rooms with lethal traps allowing Kurtis to pass safely through the room afterwards.

Kurtis Trent – Weapons.

Chain hanging from wrist manacle. Use as a whip, bend steel bars, death slide move, choke guards.

Knife.

Iron bar.

4. Found objects – Eg: fire extinguisher.

Kurtis Trent – Paranormal powers.

1. Sixth sense

Icon turns red when guards are in the vicinity.

The game pad vibrates in time to the guards footsteps. This vibration lessens or increases with the guards proximity to Kurtis.

2. Control of rats and ravens.

Limited to small creatures. Use them as roving spy cameras or to chew/peck at a supporting rope or power cable.

3. X-ray vision.

See inside small objects like crates and locks. Look through to the other side of a door to see what is barring it.

4. Telekinesis.

Move small objects with mind control.

Guards.

Armed with electrified batons, net guns and tranquillizer dart guns.

One dart will make Kurtis move more slowly while two dart hits will knock him out.

Repeated blows from the electric baton will stun Kurtis and knock him out.

Being captured with a net results in Kurtis unable to move and the guards beat him into unconsciousness.

When Kurtis is knocked out he is taken to a room somewhere in the current level.

This room can be : Cells.

High security rooms.

Bedrooms.

Operating theatres.

Tower cells.

Guards will home in on kurtis using sound detection and line of sight.

After Kurtis has been recaptured.

When Kurtis is captured and locked up again, the room he finds himself in will have a set piece puzzle to be solved before Kurtis can escape again.

IDEA : In level 02 – Hospital, Kurtis has a tracker bug implanted in his body. The aim is to find the room where it can be removed.

Game map.

The player can call up a map of the fortress.

The unexplored areas are low-lighted while the explored areas are high-lighted.

Security devices and how to beat them.

Camera – Avoid line of sight.

Trip wires – Jump over.

Pressure pads – Step around/jump over.

Laser trip wire – Smash power box, jump over, rat chews power cable.

Sonic detectors – Move slowly (quietly). (A test set by the bad guys).

Temperature detectors – Avoid temperature camera line of sight or put on a thermal suit. Use a fire extinguisher to cool the room with chemical smoke. (A test set by the bad guys).

Nets drop from ceiling – Roll sideways. Escape uses energy to break net.

Tranquillizer auto gun – Run/jump/roll.

Gas filled room – Time based puzzle. Hold breath while working out the door lock

puzzle. Breath indicator appears and drops as time passes. (A test set by the bad guys).

Electric floor – Put on rubber boots. Smash power box. Rat chews power cable.

Why not just fight all the guards?

If the guard isn’t killed in two seconds, reinforcements appear and Kurtis is overwhelmed.

Door types.

1. Time release door.

If Kurtis tries to open this door a clock icon appears over it and starts counting down.

Kurtis must hang around until the time is up and the open light comes on.

He must avoid the guards while he is waiting.

The time doors lead to good things and are worth the wait.

Bonus rooms, pick ups and extended level maps are behind these doors.

2. Sliding bar door.

A metal bar slides into place and locks the door.

3. Wooden block.

A wooden block is dropped in place to jam the door.

4. Chair jammed behind door.

5. Key lock door.

Use the key to open the door.

NOTE : When Kurtis has passed through a door he can lock it to stop guards following.

Sneaking about.

Kurtis can hide in the shadows. The guards will not see him even if he is in their line of sight.

Power lines.

Using his x-ray vision Kurtis can ‘see’ power cables running through a room.

The cables are drawn as a superimposed line over the room.

The cables are colour coded.

Green is a communications cable. If Kurtis cuts this cable the guards can’t call for reinforcements.

Red is for power to an automated item. Ie: door, engine, winch, electronic device. If Kurtis cuts this cable the machine will stop working.

Weight of objects.

All objects in the world will have a weight assigned to them.

This will be used to determine whether Kurtis can smash through a door that is heavier than he is, whether he can lift an item unassisted and how an object reacts when it is thrown or dropped.

Some puzzles will be based around weight dispositions. Ie: Cantilevers, scales and pulleys where the result is dependant on a certain weight being applied.

Game walkthrough.

Level 01 – Dungeons.

START

01. Escape from cell with prisoner.

Attract guard in following ways.

Method 01 : Burn bed with lantern.
