Right this is not totally Tomb Raider related, but a few years ago (2009 if to be precise) I got an email from Kyo San, where he asked my permission to use my goofy Dancing Lara animation in his music video. That’s how I was introduced to Lady Gaga’s music (yep, it was the first time I ever heard her song!). 

Few years later, well… this happened:

I just felt like I needed to wear Tomb Raider tshirt that day! In fact I even had  this bag with me too. 

Sorry to go all personal but this was one hell of the day, when I wore a tshirt of the game that changed my life to meet the artist who largely influence my own creativity, and whose songs cheer me up when I feel down!

We’ve decided to write a quick travel guide
for those of you who’ve never visited Manchester before. The guide will cover
both transport to and from PLAY Expo and suggestions for other activities in
which you may be interested.

“Y’All rite!” WELCOME TO MANCHESTER!

Transport

Manchester has a fairly effective transport
system that relies mostly on trams and busses. If you’re travelling within the
city centre you can also take free Metro Shuttle Busses (with free Wi-Fi on
board!). More information on free city centre metro-shuttle service can be
found here.

Event City, the venue for PLAY Expo, is
situated in Trafford, outside of Manchester city centre. The best way to get to
Event City is by bus from Piccadilly Gardens. The X50 and 250 busses go through
a number of areas so if you’re staying in a different part of Manchester you
may want to check the route. You can find timetable and route information here. More bus routes are available on
the Trafford Centre website

Alternatively, Uber operates in Manchester.
Uber allows you to pay for your trip with your debit/credit card, PayPal or
Cash. It also allows you to book a taxi to pick you up from your GPS position,
which can be handy if you don’t know the surrounding area. Uber app allows you
to track your taxi in real time as well. More

Driving

EventCity is located close to junctions 9
and 10 on the M60. There are over 3000 free carparking spaces on-site and there
is additional free parking at The Trafford Centre

Places to go

If you are staying for a few days,
Manchester has a number of interesting places to visit. We recommend Manchester Museum, with its
diverse collection of dinosaur fossils and Ancient Egyptian artefacts. There is
also an incredible Manchester Museum of
Science and Industry. All museums are free to attend.

If you appreciate art then Manchester Art Gallery is a place to
go. Additionally, consider visiting Affleck’s Palace, a hive of alternative,
retro fashions and interests.

If you’re looking for a cool place to go
for a few drinks then Fab Café is your destination. Located within the city
centre this geeky retro club with arcade cabinets will keep you entertained.

Regardless if you’re staying for additional
days or not, do visit the Trafford Centre, a large indoor shopping centre that
looks like a Roman Palace. It is only across the road from the Event City so
you will have a chance to visit it after the Expo.

And if you want to have an ultimate retro games overdose then we suggest paying a visit to Arcade Club. Pay £10 and enjoy TENS of retro gaming machines. The Arcade Club is in Bury which is just a short tram ride from the city centre. The venue is open Friday-Sunday.

Safety

Manchester is a safe city. The city centre
itself is as safe as any major western city centre, just use the standard
precautions and you will be just fine. There are parts outside the city centre
that can be quite dangerous at night, so we encourage you to be cautious if
you believe that your hotel is in one of those areas. Consider taking a taxi
to your hotel at night.  In case of emergency call 999. More
