As a member of the PC master race, I always was curious about Mac Gaming, so I backed this book by Richard Moss a few months ago. Can’t wait to get a quiet day and read it all and write a full review. However, I managed to skim through the pages and it’s actually quite impressive. The author himself states that he started working on this book about four years ago and it draws on archive materials as well as 60+ new interviews with key figures from Mac gaming’s past.

This will undoubtedly be interesting for gamers , game devs and even some researchers (I did both of my dissertations on gaming culture ;)).

Today we analyzed some mise-en-scene objects in TRAOD and found out a few interesting details.

We’ve contacted a number of Core’s representatives and confirmed some of these:

VON CROY LIKES CATS

Their names are Peefer and Squidge They both belong to Andy Gibson, one of the artists.

VON CROY HAS EXQUISITE MUSIC TASTE

Chas n Dave and some other CD can be found in Werner’s apartment. We’re still confirming the second album cover.

PHOTOS IN CARVIER’S APPARTMENT

Photos of real people can be spotted in Margot’s flat. We’ve reached the artist for comments.

EUROPE 2

The first location of the game is infested with “Europe 2” posters. “Europe 2” was a French network of radio stations; it was renamed in 2008 and now known as “Virgin Radio France”.

EXTRA

We’ve found a few magazines and VHS covers.

This magazine’s cover  looks like an image of Indiana Jones/ Rick Dangerous.

This VHS cover seems to be an image of Axel’s Magic Hammer. We have not confirmed these just yet, they might be just random textures

Some of the Core Design team encoded the names of their family members in the main menu of the Angel of Darkness (PC Version), including initials and full names.

So here are our favorite Tomb Raider references in retro and contemporary games.

The Witcher 3 (2015)

During the quest “The Great Escape” Geralt finds a corpse,
whilst examining it Geralt will say “Tomb Raider. Seems this one liked Elven
stuff”

Hitman – Absolution
(2012)

Newspaper headline “She lost everything in one day!” as a reference to Tomb Raider Underworld, where Lara’s
manor was destroyed. Also there’s a “Croft” bag and a mat.

Sid Meier’s
Civilization 5 (2010)

One of the achievements is a reference to Lara’s obsession
with Egyptian tombs.

Art of
Murder: FBI Confidential (2008)

The FBI boss shouts at the protagonist after she’s back from Peru

Primal (2003)

“RIP Laura Cruft’s” gravestone

Asterix &
Obelix XXL 2: Mission: Las Vegum (2005)

Oh that Larry Craft and his Getafix cosplay…

Druuna Morbus Gravis
(2001)

Druuna will wear Lara’s outfit if you enter a special
cheatcode.

Spyro: Year of the Dragon (2000)

Tara is an explorer who spends her life raiding tombs and looking for treasure she also looks and sounds very familiar…

Duke Nukem:

Cute Tomb Raider Easter Egg in Sid Meier’s Civilization 5

“As some eagle-eyed Rise of the Tomb Raider players have discovered, two placeholder movies were accidentally included in the latest patch. This content was not meant to be released, but now that it is we wanted to respond to the questions we’ve received as a result. The movies are part of a DLC expansion we’re exploring for Rise of the Tomb Raider. Our fans continue to enjoy Rise of the Tomb Raider and its DLC, including Cold Darkness Awakened which released on Tuesday, and we receive many requests for additional story content. We’re always listening to feedback from our fans; especially this year as we celebrate 20 years of the iconic Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider franchise together.”
